چکیده

The purpose of this note is to analyse the differences between some results contained in [ll and analogous results in [2,31. The three papers deal with the issue of how the basic execution mechanism of logic programming (i.e., SLD resolution) can be exploited to handle some kinds of equational theories: a set E of equations, which may be interpreted as a rewriting system (by orienting the equations), can be transformed into a set of Horn clauses to which ordinary SLD resolution can be applied to compute normal forms (instead of rewriting) and to solve equations (instead of narrowing [6]) w.r.t. the theory E. This technique, which we call Jutrening, consists in transforming functional nestings into atom conjunctions in the bodies of the Horn clauses that are created. See [2,3] for the definitions of the flattening algorithms for generic term rewriting systems, and see [1,5,7,8] for systems with constructors (i.e., rewriting systems involving the distinction between defined-function symbols and data-constructor symbols). The only difference between the two versions is that in the latter case applications of constructors are not flattened. Following the notation of [2,3], we will indicate by Raat the set of Horn clauses obtained by compiling the rewriting system R by means of the appropriate version

A Fast and Self-Repairing Genetic Programming Designer for Logic Circuits

Usually, important parameters in the design and implementation of combinational logic circuits are the number of gates, transistors, and the levels used in the design of the circuit. In this regard, various evolutionary paradigms with different competency have recently been introduced. However, while being advantageous, evolutionary paradigms also have some limitations including: a) lack of con...

A Genetic Programming-based Scheme for Solving Fuzzy Differential Equations

This paper deals with a new approach for solving fuzzy differential equations based on genetic programming. This method produces some trial solutions and seeks the best of them. If the solution cannot be expressed in a closed analytical form then our method produces an approximation with a controlled level of accuracy. Furthermore, the numerical results reveal the potential of the proposed appr...

Proofs and Computations in Conditional Equational Theories By

Conditional equations arise naturally in the algebraic speciication of data types. They also provide an elegant computational paradigm that cleanly combines logic and functional programming. In this thesis, we study how to do proofs and computations in conditional equational theories, using rewriting techniques. We examine diierent f o r m ulations of conditional equations as rewrite systems an...

Representing Powerdomain Elements as Monadic Second Order Predicates

This report characterizes the powerdomain constructions which have been used in the semantics of programming languages in terms of formulas of first order logic under a preordering of provable implication. This provides an intuitive representation which suggests a new form of powerdomain called the mixed powerdomain which expresses data in a different way from the well-known constructions from ...

A Method for Solving Convex Quadratic Programming Problems Based on Differential-algebraic equations

In this paper, a new model based on differential-algebraic equations(DAEs) for solving convex quadratic programming(CQP) problems is proposed. It is proved that the new approach is guaranteed to generate optimal solutions for this class of optimization problems. This paper also shows that the conventional interior point methods for solving (CQP) problems can be viewed as a special case of the n...
